The Venetian Clock Tower
The Venetian Clock Tower with the famous solar clock, is located at the historic city centreand it is a building of 1752, a typical example of the architecture of the Venetian domination. Later, the “hat” was added on top and the belfry of the temple of Agios Charalampos as well.
Theofaneios Hall
Theofaneio School was built in the years of 1825-1844, thanks to the bequest from Anastasios Theofanous, a citizen of Preveza, who was a prominent merchant operating in Russia of Catherine the Great. Now, it houses the Public Cultural Centre. It is located at the historic centre of the city, behind the City Hall.
The building of the National Bank
The National Bank building was built in 1932-1934 and it is a typical example of the recent public buildings that were built after the liberation (1913). Colorful ceramic Iznik tiles decorate the upper part of the balcony’s archway: saz and green leaves and light blue and pink flowers, scattered birds of paradise (blackbirds, peacocks). The tile decoration of the archway is a common technique during the period of westernization of the ottoman architecture. According to An. Tzakou (Tzakou 1984), the building was designed by the architect Michail Kanakis and according to Dion. Vlachopoulos (Vlachopoulos, 2003) by Aristomenis Valvis. It is located at the central pedestrial beach walkway of the city, next to the City Hall.
The Building of the old Public Market
The building of the old public market was built in 1939 in order to house the grocery and butchery shops of the city and currently it houses the Municipality’s Cultural Centre and it hosts various cultural events. It is located at the historic centre a few meters off the pedestrial beach walkway.
The Palace of Justice
The building that currently houses the Palace of Justice, is dated back to the end of the 19th century, when it used to be the city’s Government house. It is a spacious rectangular building, with two storeys, built in the characteristic style of ottoman public buildings of that period. It is a few meters off the square of Odysseas Androutsos at the beach.
